The NZ Cycleway Project
In May 2009 I started working with Julian Hulls of Nextbike to develop “Great Urban Rides” in Auckland as part of the New Zealand Cycleway Project. Great Urban Rides has the potential to deliver a quality tourist asset at the same time as kick-starting the transformation of Auckland into a cycle friendly city.
The project hit an important milestone on 3 September 2009 when the Auckland City Council’s Transport Committee endorsed the project and provided $40,000 to fund the signage for the first 3 routes – Ponsonby Heritage route, Waitemata Harbour route and Maungawhau Volcanic ride.

We presented a paper about the rides at the NZ Cycling Conference 2009 in New Plymouth (12 & 13 November) “Great Urban Rides: developing showcase cycle routes for Auckland”
