Boris Johnson the former mayor of London had the right idea when he said “I have long held the view that a cyclised city is a civilised city, but if we are to get more Londoners on to two wheels rather than four we need to provide the facilities to help them do so.” He leaves a legacy of super cycling highways that are starting to bear impressive fruit.
This comment equally applies to Auckland – our city leaders just need a vision of a cycle-friendly city to make it happen.
Bike Auckland is a really active advocacy group working hard to make cycling safer and easier. Until October 2010 I was on the Bike Auckland (then Cycle Action Auckland) committee and membership secretary.
